A thin slit stands out between the two elements of the structure, giving a sense of lightness, giving the upper part an airy effect.

Evident on the outside is the absence of mechanisms that generate the movements of the backrest and the seat (in the case of the swivel base on castors), carefully hidden, respectively in the armrests and in the base, thanks to systems designed by Marcello Ziliani and the R&D team of Mara.

In the minimal expression, however, lies the utmost comfort, thanks to a large and soft cushioning (made of molded foam) and above all thanks to the movement of the backrest, which is unrelated to the seat.

Icon, although being a typical bucket seat, is not a monocoque: the seat and backrest have been deliberately made separately in order to guarantee independent movement.

Hence the choice of an emblematic name for its revolutionary impact. It presents itself as an “icon” for Mara and for the world of design, in which it immediately immerses itself with its classic, but also secure and bold character: the clear lines that define it, the elusive armrest that looks back and its edge that rises upwards are representative of this.
